Why do I appreciate Verdier’s works?
I love Fabienne Verdier’s art for its ability to capture immense depth within a single stroke. Her work embodies fluidity, weight, and resonance, where a single gesture carries years of refinement and energy. I discovered her through Passenger of Silence, a book that inspired me to practice shodo for three months, drawing spirals every morning—an exercise in balance, motion, and presence, but also in understanding the nuance of every stroke. Verdier’s mastery of ink and movement resonates deeply with me; her strokes feel peaceful, yet so dynamic. In every stroke there is life, intensity, and meditative clarity. Her art embodies the principles of the yin yang, and lies at the centre between force and release. I feel really drawn by this meditative quality and by the nuance and textures she brings to her works.
