One of the most popular game of the last decades, Hades is Supergiant Games’ last game. Hades masterfully weaves its roguelike death loop into its narrative, making failure part of Zagreus’ relentless struggle. Each death feels inevitable, and the challenge unsurmountable, until one day you reach out of hell. Darren Korb’s excellent soundtrack brings gravitas and grit to this journey of perseverance and defiance.
Hades was for me a pivotal game during in the year of 2022, as our company was experiencing difficulties. Hades was my, and my co-founder’s escape. The death loop felt immensely meaningful to us, reminding us that through perseverance and repetition one can learn and defy what may seem like fate.
The theme of death and rebirth cycle is one I am sure to reuse at some point in my game dev career.
